Saturday morning football action had the Alliance Middle School 7th graders hosting Chadron. A late score by the guests was just enough in a Cardinal win 16 to 14. With the loss, AMS drops to 1 and 1 on the year. The Dogs held on an early lead but back to back Card touchdowns was too much to overcome. Alliance scored late but an onside kick was recovered by the guests. Bulldog Stadium hosted the event.
CMS received the ball first and were turned away. Starting on the 29, the Bulldogs got on the board as Brooks Sylvester sprinted down the Chadron sideline for a 71 yard TD. Alliance failed on the point after and with 1:48 left in the period, AMS was up 6 to 0. The quarter would come to a close the Cardinals on the move and with the Dogs up by 6.
A big pass play by the visitors is how the second began. With under 5 minutes left in the half, the Cards scored on a one yard touchdown to tie the contest at 6. The all important extra point was good. There were no more tallies in the half and the teams went to break with AMS behind 8 to 6.
Both teams had opportunities in the third but were denied. Heading to the fourth, the Cards were still up by 2. The play of the game came late in the fourth. Chadron faced a long fourth down try but a 25 yard pass was good. The play gave the guests the ball at the 2 yard line with under 2 minutes left. With 1:07 remaining, the Cards scored on a 1 yard TD. Their PAT was also good as the Dog deficit went to 10 at 16 to 6. No quit in these Bulldogs. AMS answered right back as quarterback Charlie Herian connected with Madden Marsteller for a 53 yard TD score. Herian ran in for the extra point, and with 54 seconds left, the Bulldogs were down 16 to 14. Alliance tried an on side kick but the guests were there for recovery. Chadron would then run out the final moments and post the win 16 to 14.
