APD Responds to Stabbing

An Alliance man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a man in the chest on Friday evening.

According to Alliance Police Department Chief John Kiss, officers responded to a call that a man had received a stab wound to the chest on June 19 at 7:25 p.m. in the 1000 block of Toluca Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man later identified as Stephen Oliver with a stab wound to the chest.

He was transported to Box Butte General Hospital.

Upon investigation, officers determined that George Smith, 66, of Alliance and Oliver were in an argument that had allegedly escalated. Smith was taken into custody at the scene.

Kiss said charges have been recommended to the Box Butte County Attorney, and that the investigation will continue.

“The investigation is ongoing and no further details will be provided until the matter is resolved to protect the rights of the accused,” Kiss said in a press release.

As of press time, no case had been filed against George Smith in Box Butte County Court. The Alliance Times-Herald contacted the Box Butte County Attorney’s Office for information, but they failed to respond to our request before press time.
