ATH Gives Hope to Those Battling Cancer

It is important to never lose hope, especially in the battle against cancer.

The Alliance Times-Herald is giving hope to those who are battling cancer. Each year, the Alliance Times-Herald publishes a breast cancer awareness section called “Hope for a Cure,” a portion of the proceeds of which are donated to Jane’s Closet in Alliance. This year, staff at the Alliance Times-Herald have revamped the section with plans to donate the funds directly to those community members who are battling cancer.

“This year, we are calling the section ‘Giving Hope,’ because that’s what we intend to do: give people hope,” said ATH Co-Publisher Shaun Friedrichsen. “Cancer is a horrible disease, and one of the leading causes of death in the United States. In the face of something so horrid, we want to give people the resources they need to fight that battle, which is why we intend to donate a portion of the proceeds from the Giving Hope section to those in need.”

The Alliance Times-Herald is calling for community members to nominate people who are currently battling cancer. A nomination form can be located in the Giving Hope Section. The form can be submitted to the Alliance Times-Herald, with the deadline set for Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. Out of those nominees, staff will draw the names of three people who will be given an equal share of the profits of the Giving Hope Section to be used for medical, fuel, food, hotel and other expenses.

ATH Co-Publisher Kathryn Kellar developed the plan to donate the proceeds from the Giving Hope section directly to community members battling cancer.

“Since Shaun and I took over at the Alliance Times-Herald, we have been looking for ways to engage with community members. While we were planning the section, I thought this might be a new way to help those in need in our community. Alliance has a rich history of people helping other people, and that is something we want to continue.”
