Hopes of a doubleheader sweep for the Alliance Prep team fell in game 2 against Chadron. Strong pitching by PVC led Chadron to an 8 to 4 win over the Peltz Co. The game was played Wednesday in Alliance. Chadron’s six run second frame proved to be the difference. The Preps captured game one of the doubleheader but came up short in the night cap. Alliance was held to just 4 hits in the affair. On the hill for the Preps was starter Silas Lilley-Stone and reliever Jace Jensen.
Frame one was quiet for both sides. Chadron took control in the second with 6 tallies. A two run triple led the guests. In the last of the second, the Spartans scored once thanks to swings from AJ Garcia, Jensen, and Sonny Hernandez. Both squads went scoreless in the third. Garcia from his catcher’s position threw out a PVC runner trying to steal in the top of the inning. Chadron led 6 to 1 heading to the fourth.
Both teams scored once in inning #4. Alliance’s Dixon Bair walked and scored run two on a sac fly by Jensen. Two strikeouts by Jensen in the top of the fifth gave the Peltz Co a chance. In the bottom of the frame, the Preps plated two. Roy Torres singled and cross on a passed ball. Alliance’s fourth tally came when Lilley-Stone walk and scored on a wild pitch. More Ks by Jensen in Chadron’s last at bat kept hope alive for a comeback. Chadron would score once to go up by 4. Alliance loaded the sacks in the bottom of the sixth with 3 free passes but all the runners were left on the paths. Final Chadron 8
