Big First Quarter Lifts Bulldogs Past Red Raiders

Football coaches are always preaching to be strong in all three phases of the game in order to have success. The Alliance seventh grade team accomplished all three in their contest Saturday at home against Sidney. AMS checked all three box with 5 offensive touchdowns, 1 defensive score, and a block punt in downing the Raiders 38 to 12. With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 3 and 0 on the season. Alliance continued the winning in the B game, defeating the guests 14 to 0. The b team also goes to 3 and 0 on the year.

AMS received the ball first and quickly got on the board. A spot pass from Jay Shelmadine to Caysen Robertson caught the guests off guard and resulted in a 66 yard touchdown pass as Robertson broke free around midfield and scored on the game’s first play. Later in the first period, it was Robertson scoring on a 56 yard run, helping the Dogs go up 12 to 0. Sidney answered back returning an interception 20 yards for their first score of the game. The pick sliced the AMS lead to 12 to 6. A nice defensive tackle by Jackson Devlin stopped the Raider PAT. Alliance went back on offense and Robertson scored on a 60 yard t.d. run and the period ended with Alliance ahead 18 to 6. The only scoring in the second quarter came as AMS’s Will Zurn would tip a Sidney pass into the hands of Robertson who raced 30 yards for another score. Coy Childers added the point after and the half ended with the Bulldogs in front 26 to 6.

The Raiders would control the ball most of the third quarter. Receiving the opening kick of the second half, Sidney marched deep into Alliance territory. Their drive would be stopped by the AMS defense and the quarter came to a close the Dogs still ahead by 20. On the Raiders first possession of the final stanza, Sidney was forced to punt deep in their own territory. Bulldog Jaden Guerrero came storming in from his defensive end position to block the punt, giving AMS great field position. Shelmadine would sneak in from the one yard line as the Alliance lead grew to 32 to 6. The game came to an end with a long Sidney touchdown run and a 45 yard touchdown pass from Alliance’s Tanner Salcido to Wyatt Stabnow. Final: Alliance 38, Sidney 12

Due to lack of players from Sidney the b game consisted of a 10 minute contest. It took the Bulldogs only one play to score on their first series. Childers raced 80 yards on the game’s opening play. Salcido added the PAT, giving the Bulldogs the early lead. Later in the contest, Stabnow scored on a reverse play from his receiver position. The play covered 45 yards. Both teams would have one more possession but didn’t score.

Coach Mark Glesinger said, “Always nice to great off to a good start and we were able to do that in both games. scoring on the first play. Robertson gets the credit for his scores but I thought both of own lines control the line of scrimmage. The coaches are happy with the outcomes and are still seeing somethings to improve on as we finish the season with 3 game remaining.”

The Bulldogs next game will be against Torrington in Torrington on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 10.
