The crowded condition at the Emerson school has necessitated the transfer of the sixth grade from that building to the Central school. At the opening of school the fourth grade was transferred to Central and it was thought this would relieve the congestion but the very large enrollment in the first grade and the fifth and sixth grade departments, where forty-nine and forty-six, were enrolled necessitated further transfers.

A big crowd at the depot Thursday noon was agog with excitement over the report that C. E. Hughes, republican candidate for president, was in the city. Necks were craned out of all proportion in an effort to catch a glimpse of Mr. Hughes, until it was discovered that the gentleman was none other than Dr. Everett, of Lincoln, who wears his whiskers in the same fashion as the presidential candidate.

A tale of how they, together with seven other men, were held up and robbed at the point of huge revolvers by three masked men on a freight train between Alliance and Angora about 9 o’clock last night, following which they were kicked off of the swiftly moving train, was told to county and city officers here this morning by two men.

And they lived happily ever after. This sentence, borrowed from one of the best known fair tales, fittingly describes the happy ending of the elopement a week ago of Miss Etta E. Scott, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ormanda Scott of this city, who was married Wednesday to Clyde R. Moglemre, 20, of Bridgeport. The bride’s parents knew nothing of the proposed marriage until they received a telegram from their daughter, stating that she had been married at Longmont.

Is it actually possible to pick up television programs in Alliance? Lew Wollaston, who operates a radio store on West Third Street, is about to find out. Over the weekend, Wollaston put up a 70-foot television antenna on the roof of his store. So far no clear cut pictures have appeared on the screen.

Alliance’s new museum can become a valuable commercial asset to the city, W. D. Aeschbacher told members of the Rotary Club Wednesday night. Aeschbacher, who grew up at Hyannis, said people of that community favored Alliance as a shopping center because they also could get medical services, entertainment and recreation here.

Frontier Airlines, in a brief filed with the Civil Aeronautics Board in Washington, has asked to be relieved of serving both its north and south Nebraska routes and would also pull its service completely out of Alliance and Chadron.

The opening two hours of the newly remodeled Montgomery-Ward and Co., store here today was termed a “complete success” by Manager Bill Jones. By noon, at least 600 persons had visited the business and the 150 carnations were given to women during the first 20 minutes the store was open, Jones said.

The Legislature’s interim committee on taxation opened a hearing in Alliance today concerned primarily with four tax problems – aircraft fuel taxes, taxation of mobile homes, equalization and implementation of Amendment 10 which authorizes the legislature to exempt business and agricultural personal property from property taxes.

Bids are being sought by the Housing Authority of the City of Alliance for construction of 26 low-rent housing units, according to Clifford Fletcher, chairman of the authority. Fletcher said that the bids are being asked for 13 duplexes and also two non-dwelling buildings, a community room-office, and a maintenance building.

Alliance Dayco Plant Manager Gene Sanders announced this morning that Dayco Corporation and The Armstrong Rubber Company have signed an agreement calling for Armstrong to acquire the assets and assume certain liabilities and obligations of several Dayco Automotive and Industrial businesses. The sale price was $185 million.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a license to Box Butte General Hospital authorizing it to ship whole blood across state lines. BBGH is the only hospital in western Nebraska which currently holds such a license.

Routes for trains and traffic will be separated in Alliance upon completion of the 10th Street overpass this spring. Construction began in August with utility relocation and right-of-way preparation. Heavy equipment is presently peeling away the road surface – the final step before the viaduct structure begins to take shape.

Dog lovers throughout the community were able to show up at the Wiggley Field dog park on Saturday all morning and afternoon for an event, Responsible Dog Owner’s Day, hosted by the Alliance Dog Owners Group (ADOG.) The purpose of the event, according to Lorie Reeh, “To continue education; a well-trained dog is a well-behaved dog at the dog park and a better pet.”

The Alliance Police Department is asking people for help in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in a string of burglaries in Alliance earlier this year. On Tuesday, the APD shared photos of an unidentified individual and a press release on social media.
