Most football teams would be happy with scoring 36 points in one ball game. Hemingford, on Thursday, put 36 points on the board just in the second period in defeating Bayard 58 to 6. The Cats led 16 to 0 after the first quarter then scored on a safety and five touchdowns to go up 52 to 0 at half. Quarterback Carson Haas ran for 2 scores and passed for 3 in helping the Cats go to 1 and 0 to began the year. The game was played in Bayard.
A 41 yard TD run by Haas started the scoring in the first. Running back Zaine Feist added the pat. Later in the period, Hemingford went up 14 to 0 after a 9 yard touchdown score by Haas. Haas added the point after and the period closed with the Cats up 16 to 0.
Hemingford continued to dominate in the second. A reverse play to Lucas Sulzbach went for 23 yards for the Cat’s third TD. Feist charged in from the extra point. Later in the quarter, Haas tackled a Tiger in the end zone for a safety. The lead for the Cats then went to 32 to 0 as Haas connected with Anthony Haas for a 17 yard TD play. After a Bayard fumble, the Bobcat advantage went to 38 to 0 following a 30 yard TD pass from Haas to Haas. Feist added the PAT. The half closed with a 60 yard TD pass from Haas to Jayce Haas and a 1 yard td run by Warner Tallon. Heading to halftime, the Cats were up 52 to 0.
Third quarter action had both teams getting on the board. Bayard got into the scoring column first to make it 52 to 6. Later in the third, a one yard score by Anthony Haas ended the scoring.
