The search for a person reported missing on Saturday came to an end after authorities located the body of 21-year-old Sage Cross north of Chadron.
According to a news release from Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug, the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office received the report at approximately 9 a.m. on Feb. 22. The office was contacted about a welfare check for Cross in rural Dawes County.
Within three hours, deputies located Cross’s body in a pasture several miles north of Chadron. Haug was called to the scene, along with investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol and members of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department.
Haug noted that an autopsy and a toxicologcal screening were ordered in Scottsbluff as the investigation continues. No further information was released as of press time.
