Action at the Chadron tourney came to an end for the Spuds on Saturday with a tough 15 to 14 loss to Box Elder. Alliance went 0-2-1 for the day. The Bombers used a big first frame then held off a late rally by the Spuds. Tyce Johnson led the Alliance O with 3 hits. Overall, the Spuds pounded out 11 knocks. Jensen Freiberger was the starter. Pitching in relief were Nikki Escamilla and Leo Hager.
Box Elder went to the dish first and had success. The Bombers used 6 hits and 5 walks that resulted in 9 tallies. Back came Alliance with three in the home half. Hits by Johnson, Jack Freiberger, Hager, and Jensen Freiberger closed the gap to six. The Bombers didn’t score in the second while the Spuds plated 5. Alliance received knocks from Jon Luke, Jack Sautter, Johnson, and Grady Mracek to get close. Heading to the third, the Bombers were up by 1.
In inning #3, Box Elder went scoreless. Alliance then knotted at contest at 9 thanks to a hit by Jensen Freiberger and a passed ball. Both clubs were hot in their final at bat in the fourth. The Bombers scored 6 to go up 15 to 9.
Alliance was far from done. Walks to Landon Schroth and Mracek and a hit by Johnson loaded the bases. A wild pitch and a steal of home make it 15 to 11. A 2 run single by Hager and another wild pitch got the Spuds to within one. Unfortunately, the Bombers recorded the last out and won the affair 15 to 14.
