Cats get a Second Place Performance from Benda at Mitchell Invite

A busy week for the Hemingford track teams continued on Thursday with the Bobcats competing in the Mitchell Invite. Fresh off a fine showing at the Storm Invite in Chappell on Tuesday, the Cats ran into some tough competition in Mitchell. Hemingford ended the day with 21 points which was good for eighth overall in the boy’s division while the Lady Cats failed to score.

Eighteen schools participated in the event. Scottsbluff won the team race in the boy’s division with 133 points with Sidney placing second with 124 tallies. Alliance was third with 45.5 points.

In the girl’s competition, it was Sidney as the champs with 90 points. Chadron finished as the runners up with 68 with Scottsbluff taking third with 58 points.

Schools competing: Scottsbluff, Sidney, Alliance, Mitchell, Chadron, Ogallala, Gering, Hemingford, Bridgeport, Gordon-Rushville, Kimball, Hay Springs, Hyannis, Lingle-Fort Laramie, Bayard, Crawford, Minatare, and Sioux County.

Top placer for the Cats was junior Austin Benda who took second in the 800. Taking home silver medals were Tayten Haas in the discus and Keirith Yale in the high jump. The Lady Bobcats got a ninth place performance in the 400 relay for their best finish. Team members were: Kail Miles, Anna Anderson, Desilee Hinman, and Teagan Yale.
