City of Alliance Seeking Applicants for Planning Commission

Have you ever considered serving your community? The City of Alliance is currently accepting applications to fill three recent vacancies on the Planning Commission. Residents with an interest in community planning, development, and the future of Alliance are encouraged to apply and become part of a board that helps guide the City’s long-term vision.

Serving as an advisory body to the City Council, the Planning Commission reviews planning and development-related matters and provides recommendations that help shape the future of Alliance. The Commission reviews proposed subdivisions, annexations, rezoning requests, updates to the Comprehensive Plan, amendments to the Land Development Code, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) projects, and the City’s capital improvement budget. The Commission also reviews Conditional Use Permit applications and, in those cases, may serve as the final decision-making authority as outlined in the municipal code.

At the heart of the Commission’s work is the City’s Comprehensive Plan—a long-range planning document that establishes a vision for Alliance over the next 10 to 20 years. Commissioners evaluate proposals to ensure they are consistent with the goals of the Comprehensive Plan, municipal code, and state law while considering how today’s decisions will impact future generations.

Planning Commission meetings are open to the public, giving residents the opportunity to stay informed about planning initiatives and proposed changes that may affect the community.

“Alliance is fortunate to have a strong tradition of community service. With three recent vacancies on the Planning Commission, it has become more challenging to maintain a quorum and keep important work moving forward. I would love to see anyone who cares about the future of Alliance—including those who may have served the City in another role before—consider applying,” said City Manager J.D. Cox.

Residents interested in applying can pick up an application at City Hall, 324 Laramie Ave, or download an application from the City’s website at www.cityofalliance.net. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
