Cyclones Take Down Dogs in 2

Action at the Douglas volleyball tournament started for Alliance on Friday with a contest against Southeast. It was the first of three matches on the day for the Bulldogs. A big spree in the middle of both sets proved to be too much for AHS. The Cyclones bested the Dogs 25 13 25 20. Alliance got within three points late in set #2 but SE was able to stop the rally.

Two early kills by Alliance’s Maslin Breen help the Bulldogs stay close in set one. Tied at three, Southeast went on a mini run to go up 8 to 5 before a kill Ryli Poss closed the gap to 2. After that it was all Clones. Southeast used strong net play to take a big lead at 16 to 8. Alliance’s Olivia Krejci stopped the spurt with a kill, making the score 16 to 9. Down 21 to 11, 2 Krejci points along with 2 ace spikes by Poss made the board read SE 21 All 13. The set end with 4 straight tallies by the Cyclones as Southeast took the set 25 to 13.

Play was even early in the second. A kill and an ace serve by Bulldog Brooke Bailey paced the Alliance offense. The Dogs lead 5 to 3 before a big run by SE put the Alliance deficit at 5 at 11 to 6. Kaitlyn Shannon finished the spree with a kill as the Bulldogs pulled within 4. After a point by Krejci and another kill by Poss, it was the Cyclones dominating the action. Southeast surged ahead 20 to 12 before another kill by Poss made it 20 to 13. Two points by Alliance’s Jadyn Aguallo got the Dogs close at 20 to 15. Down the stretch, kills by Poss, Shannon, Bailey, and Breen gave AHS a chance. The Cyclones scored the last 2 points and won the set 25 to 20.
