For the first time in over 25 years, the Alliance St. Agnes track teams hit the road for Dalton to compete in the Leyton Track Meet. It took place on Thursday with 11 schools hitting the track. SA fair well in their opening meet with the girls finishing second overall and the boys ending third.
Kimball won both team’s title. The Lady Longhorns outlasted the Crusaders for first with 118 with SA second with 115. Banner County was third with 57tallies. With104 points, Kimball was first in the boy’s division with Garden County second with 69 points. Alliance ended with 64 points which was good for third.
St. Agnes led in the girl’s level by three heading into the final event of the day. A third place ( six points) finish by Kimball in the mile relay then gave the Horns the team trophy. Leading the way for the Lady Crusaders were Alexis Shelmadine and Penn Vergil. Shelmadine won three golds, taking first in the 100 hurdles, the pole vault, and the 200 hurdles. Her vault of 9’0 broke her school record of 8’9. Vergil also had a three first place effort. The seventh grader was first in the long jump, the high jump, and the 800. Her leap of 5’0 tied the school record. Alliance also broke the school record in the 400 relay with a time of 56.3. Members: Quinn Robertson, Vergil, Shelmadine, and Aubrey Dudden. The girls placed second in the relay. Dudden also had a super day with seconds in the high jump, long jump, and 200.
Eighth grader Tatum Devlin led the way for the Crusader boy’s club. Devlin was second in the pole vault and the 800. Alliance was second in the mile relay. Joining Devlin were: Tee Johnson, Declan Kirchner, and Mason Conyers. The Academy won the thrower’s relay. Team members: Liam Pena, Jackson Chasek, Emerson Trumble, and Tristin Hansen.
