Bryner and Lilley-Stone Lead Cats in Opening Meet in Chadron

Hemingford hit the track for the first time on Saturday with a Middle School meet in Chadron. With 45 points, the Bobcat 8th grade boy’s squad took home fourth place. Scottsbluff won the team race with 164 points with Chadron second with 66 points. The Cat 7th grade group scored 18 which was good for fifth. On the girl’s side, the Lady Bobcats scored 54 which was good for fifth in the 8th grade division. Chadron won the 8th grade team title with 132 points while taking second with 87 points was Scottsbluff. Hemingford tallied 14 points in the 7th grade’s race which was good for sixth. Gering won the 7th grade girl’s trophy with 166 points.

Individually, the Cats had several strong performance. Seventh grader Addelyn Bryner was second in the mile. She also teamed with Kennedy Mahony, Lanee Sorensen, and Harper Henderson for a second place finish in the 2 mile relay. The Cat 400 relay was also second in the 8th division with a time of 56.6. Team members were: Kamryn Haas, Emerson Horstman, Taya Hruby, and Grace Votruba. Placing third for Hemingford were Mahony in the 800, Hruby in the 400, Haas in the 100 hurdles, and Grace Helmink in the high jump.

Seventh grader Silas Lilley-Stone start his season for the Cats with three silver medals. Lilley-Stone

was second in the 100, second in the high jump, and was a member of the second place 400 relay. 8th grader Rye Jespersen placed third in both the discus and 200. In the 8th grade 200 hurdles race, Hemingford got a second place finish from Dallas Woltman. Eighth grader Zane Frost ended third in the 800.

Two trips to Bayard is next for the Cats. On Monday, Hemingford will compete in Bayard Invite then go back to Bayard on Saturday for the Western Conference meet.
