First Place Performance by Frost Leads Cats at Best of the West

Track action on Tuesday had the Hemingford Middle School teams in Scottsbluff, taking part in the Best of the West showcase. Schools from all over the area took past in the event. No team scores were recorded. Athletes had to qualify in order to participate. The Cats received a gold medal performance from 8th grader Zane Frost who won the 800 with a personal best time of 2:20. Hurdler Cooper Gallas also had a strong day, taking second in both the 100 and 200 hurdles. Both his times were also personal bests. Frost and Galles along with Rye Jespersen and Silas Lilley-Stone ended third in the 400 relay. Jespersen was fifth in the 200 and seventh in the discus. Dallas Woltman ended fifth in the 100 hurdlers and sixth in the 200 hurdles. Woltman also competed in the pole vault. The Cats finished 6th in the mile relay with a time of 4:23. Members: Gallas, Woltman, Christian Sorensen, and Kolten Covey.

Eight Lady Cats qualified and had some strong performances. Leading the way was 8th grader Emerson Horstman who was fourth in the pole vault with a personal best effort of 8’2. Seventh grade Addelyn Bryner qualified in the both the 800 and mile but was scratched due to an injury. Bryner did compete in the 2 mile relay where Hemingford took seventh. Joining Bryner were: Leah Krebs, Harper Henderson, and Lanee Sorensen. Seventh place finishers were: Grace Helmink in the high jump, Kamryn Haas in the 100 hurdles, and Atlee Gasseling in the 200 hurdles.
