Florence M. Nickens passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center at the age of 74.
She was born on September 15, 1949 in Alliance to Ernest and Myrtle (Chandler) Nickens.
Florence graduated from Alliance High School in 1967. She then attended and graduated from Chadron State College. For many years she was a Social Worker for the State of Nebraska. Following her retirement from the State of Nebraska, she became a supervisor at Parker-Hannifin, a position she held for nearly 11 years.
Florence is survived by her life partner, Ted Dunbar, his children, Denis Dunbar of St. Louis, MO and Desi Alvarado of Alliance and their children, Brogan Dunbar, Marissa Dunbar, Thomas Adam and Keith Hedrick. She is also survived by her sister, Liz Nickens of Alliance, her brother, John and his wife Terri Nickens, sister-in-law, Brenda Nickens, her nephews, Troy Nickens and Chandler Nickens, her nieces, Autumn Nickens, Amber Nickens, Brandy Spencer, Angie Cole, Claire Green and Tara Clark, great-nephews, Brodrick Nickens, Aaron Davis-Nickens, Zion Spencer, Eric Woods, great-nieces, Mackinley Woods and Danielle Cole and her cousins, Charity Jones, Fawn Sullivan, Stephanie Shores, Jason Shores, David and Anna Evans as well as a great host of other loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Hayes and Florence Chandler, Sr., her brothers, Ernie, Leroy and Danny and her nephew, Robert ‘BJ’ Nickens, stepdaughter, Dawn Dunbar.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. The service will conclude at the church, as a cemetery interment will not be conducted. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 p.m. with the family being present from 3-5 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
