These photos tell a great story about one of your own, Monte Bailey, at the rough stock rodeo July 11 at Albion. His first saddle bronc is the wreck. He scored 75 but was given a re-ride option. The 75 left him one point shy of Brady Irvine’s (Garden City, Kansas) 76 but guaranteed second place money for Monte. In classic Ty Murray style, he turned down 75 and took the re-ride. You’re probably not old enough to remember Murray’s refusal to ever turn down a re-ride. No matter what. He was adamant that he came to win. Period. Unfortunately, I am old enough and in fact photographed Murray in his prime at the PRCA Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte. You can guess the rest. After the bull riding was done, they ran in Monte’s re-ride horse for the dramatic conclusion of the rodeo. He rode masterfully, scored 80 and won first. The second photo is the re-ride. Might make an easy local feature in the next week or two or three added together with a phone interview. Just a thought.
