Game two of the Sidney tournament for the Alliance Prep squad had the Spartans battling Chadron on Saturday. The Peltz Co had a nice fifth inning rally but in the end they came up short in an 11 to 6 defeat. Roy Torres was the leader in hits, hammering out 3 of the Spartans’ seven knocks. Four Peltz Co players took the mound with starter AJ Garcia going the first 2 innings. Braden Myers, Esai Trejo, and Cooper Galles also pitched for Alliance.
Garcia would strike out 2 Chadron hitters in the opener but the rivals would get three runs in the first. Chadron used 3 walks, a couple of hits, and a passed ball to go up 3 to 0. In the bottom of the frame, Alliance answered back with 2 tallies. The Spartans got a walks from Quinn Ferguson, Trejo, and Silas Lilley-Stone to load the bases for Gallas who also walked to make the score 3 to 1. An RBI hit by Cisco Cody finished the inning with the Peltz Co down 3 to 2.
Chadron Prep extended their lead in the top of inning 2. Two singles, an error by Alliance, a walk, and a passed ball helped Chadron go up 5 to 2. The Spartans countered with one score in the home half of the inning. A knock by Torres was followed by a walk by Myers. Eventually, Torres would steal home for run #3. Lilley-Stone added a hit later in the inning. After 2 innings, Alliance trailed 5 to 3. Three more Chadron runs in the third kept the pressure on the Peltz Co. Chadron took an 8 to 3 margin heading to the last of the third. The Alliance Preps came back with one score in their attempt in the frame. Cody walked and advanced after another hit by Torres. An error by Chadron then plated Cody for Spartans’ fourth run.
Inning #4 saw three more Chadron tallies. Down 11 to 4, Alliance went scoreless in the bottom of the fourth. The Spartans would get a hit from Ferguson but he was left on the baes. Galles kept Chadron scoreless in the top of the fifth and recorded one strikeout. Alliance pushed 2 across in their final at bat in the bottom of the inning. Preston Flores reached after being hit by a pitch to start the rally. Torres’ third hit of the game moved Flores into scoring position. A pair of passed balls by Chadron made the score 11 to 6 but it was as close as the Peltz Co would get. Final Chadron 11 Alliance 6
