I have to stay where I am for a while. There’s a puppy asleep on my feet, and when he gets up, he will need to go out. And then there will be barking and wrestling and all manner of bad behavior. While he is out, I’ll gather up the laundry that is waiting to be put in the washer. He found the sock pile, and some parts of pairs may not surface until I look under the bed.
My youngest son is devious. He texted a picture of a sad eyed pup with the caption, “I need a home.” Who could resist that?
Waddie is 9 weeks old, a rag tag mix of breeds and colors. His ears show the corgi strain but the rest of him carries hints of heeler and border collie. Hence the name. Waddie is slang for a ranch hand, and he already shows interest in the heifers across the fence. Have to get a handle on that, along with the other stuff. There’s a lot to do with a baby in the house.
It’s hard to eat a meal with a pup on your feet and toys stashed under the table. He prefers Tara’s food to puppy chow so that needs monitored. Waddie already knows that Bruce sits in his recliner after supper and doles out treats, so he just goes to the chair and sits with an expectant air.
The toy box is mostly empty because he digs them all out to scatter and then goes from one thing to another. My kids did that too when they were little, but, with living in a 10×50 trailer house, I required them to pick up all toys before dad came in for dinner. Waddie hasn’t gotten that down yet and for some reason, I doubt he will.
We only get up a couple of times at night and he has toys in bed to occupy him until he’s ready to sleep again. I recall hearing the rattle of a mobile in the crib after a two o’clock feeding, but at least Waddie doesn’t get fed in the wee hours. That would simply involve another trip outdoors.
The main question we get is, “how is potty training going? Faster than with a two-year- old human, but it’s mostly a matter of who is getting trained.
Gotta go. Wadie just woke up and we are headed out the door. I’m pretty well trained by now.
