Reflections for the Week of Feb. 14-18

Human Resources:

• Preparing for Civil Service Commission, Police Review Board, and Fire Review Board to test and interview applicants for the positions of Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT and Police Officer next week.

• Completed an in-house training video on Drug-Free Workplace. 14 employees completed this and harassment training.

• Completed onboarding with new employees in Transit and Library, including safety and compliance training.

• Attended HR Nebraska Leadership Conference and conducted monthly WNHR meeting. Carla was selected to serve as President for the Western Nebraska Human Resource Association for a second term.

• Met with employees for benefit enrollment, FMLA requests and work-related injuries.

Fire:

• Epoxy floor project was completed late Saturday afternoon.

• Chief attended the 911 System Advisory Committee meeting in Kearney as a committee member. APD Lt. Kirk Felker attended as a guest of Chief Shoemaker.

• Preparing for the Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT testing process on Tuesday, February 22nd.

Public Works:

• Public Works building complete and in use!

• Streets Department placed road salt during the snow event.

• Streets department moved all tool items to new facility.

• Public Transit 568 riders this week.

• Water 224 meter radios installed to date.

• Landfill 235 tons of refuse this week.

Police Admin:

• Working on finishing strategic plan and annual report.

• Evidence transported to Lincoln.

• Working with Central Square and the State of Nebraska to repair name checks in cars.

• E-Citations now works, which has been a yearlong project! We are now scheduling printer installation in all cars. We hope to be 100% compliant with the crime commission within the next few weeks by implementing entirely digital citations.

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Coordinated 525 calls for service.

• Completed 10 report requests.

• 8 firearms permits issued.

Police Operations:

• 2 DUI, 15 Traffic Stops.

• 5 accidents, 0 K9 deployment.

• 133 Building Checks.

• 11 Community Contacts/Business Checks.

• 12 Arrest Warrants were issued for drug dealing related crimes.

Animal Control:

• 22 Animal Calls.

• 0 Animal Impounds Intake.

• 46 Code enforcement issues.

Airport:

• Staff participated in a NOTAM Manager system zoom training. This is the system we use to put

out notices to pilots.

• Conducted Snow & Ice Plan and Movement Area training for our back up person from the Golf

Course department.

• Sadly, accepted the resignation of Dusty Doggett – We wish him luck in his new endeavor! If you

are interested in a maintenance position at the Alliance Airport, please contact Human

Resources!

• Snow happened again this week but for the airport it allowed for some training to occur that can’t

happen when it is dry out.

• Researched the Federal infrastructure bill to position the airport to take advantage of any and all

available funding.

Parks:

• Snow removal and repaired equipment as necessary.

• Picked up trash as necessary.

• Gathered tools and organized them into a mobile tool box before the move.

• Assisted the street department with getting items out of the shop to move.

• Worked on the back replacement at the softball complex.

• Researching replacement toilets and outdoor restroom fixtures.

• Ordered the mower approved at Tuesday night’s Council Meeting.

Library:

• We have been busy taking down Valentine’s Day and bringing in St. Patrick’s Day. There will be

a reading contest for the kids and also our annual “Find ‘Lucky’ ” event.

• Monday we will begin our “Luck of the Irish” reading contest, with a winner being announced

March 31st. Check out any item from our collection and enter to win a stay at the Silverado

Franklin Hotel with a $150 certificate to Legends Steakhouse in Deadwood. Must be 21 to enter.

• Next week is the last week of the “Blind Date with a Book” and “Star Wars” reading contests

• We have been moving all Reference books to normal circulation so those items may leave the

library.

• Nalani Stewart has created “Lani and Emily’s Podcast Corner” for the APL web page. Check it

out along with all the other great information she has added!

RSVP

• The Valentine dinner was a great success. We served 83 during that event. We are hopeful that

hosting special events will attract individuals to the center on a more regular basis. Thank you to

all our volunteers who helped make this event possible!

• Continued to provide delivered and dine in meals.

Museum

• Hosted and catered for several events this week.

• Getting First Lady dolls ready for display.

• Assisted with research.

Community Development:

• The Berean Church has their exterior wall framing constructed.

• Meadows and Vista Mobile Home Parks are anticipating bringing in another 20 new homes this

summer.

• Corresponding with Grand Lake Village Mobile Home Park on removing an abandoned and

dilapidated mobile home.

• The drive thru for Good Will has been constructed on the west side of the building for drop offs.

• No Board of Adjustment meeting for the month of February due to lack of agenda items.

• Attended the NE Chamber Association Zoom meeting.

• Ambassadors held ribbon cutting for the new Public Works building.

• Gave a community tour for BBGH.

• Attended the Activate Alliance meeting.

• Working with My Wind Stuff for Kite Festival over Memorial Day weekend.
