Police Admin:

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Coordinated 579 calls for service.

• Completed 9 report requests.

• 1 firearm permit issued.

Police Operations:

• 7 Child Welfare Investigations.

• 0 DUI, 7 Traffic Stops.

• 4 accidents.

• 0 K9 deployments.

• 143 Building Checks.

• 19 Community Contacts/Business Checks.

• 7 Vacation House Checks.

• 8 Active Investigations.

Animal Control:

• 19 Animal Calls.

• 5 Dog Impounds. 3 dogs currently in the shelter.

Code Enforcement:

• 10 Code enforcement issues.

Notable Service:

• Satisfaction rating 91.9%.

• Overall crime is down 3.5% YTD from last year YTD.

• Officer Vera Chavez caught an individual with stolen property while on routine patrol.

Golf:

• Hosted the Floggers tournament which was very successful with 72 golfers participating.

• Most of the inventory that was ordered last spring has finally arrived and will be available in the shop.

• Winterized the restrooms on the course for the end of the season.

• Golf Course conditions have been extremely good as fall progresses.

Museum:

• This weekend is the beginning of the Museum Scrapbook for the year. If you are interested in preserving your family legacy in photos call and get on the list.

• Hosted approximately 100 1st graders in the Museum on Thursday.

• On Thursday October 13th at 5:30 we will be hosting AHS Graduate Broc Anderson, one of the newest Speakers in the Humanities Speaker’s Bureau, with his presentation of “Wounded Knee & the impact of Northwest Nebraska”. This should be a fascinating look into some early history of our area.

• The 26th Annual Christmas Festival is coming up November 26th to December 3rd. If you are interested in sharing your talent for our one and only yearly fundraiser, call and sign up. We are looking for wreaths, small trees, centerpieces, holiday yard art and anything else for Christmas décor. We supply the wreaths, trees and mini lights. We will also have a plethora of holiday trims & supplies that you can pick up to work on your item. Call 762-2384 for more information.

• We are looking for several volunteers in our Heritage Room to help file in our research files on a regular basis. We are hoping someone can adopt the Groups, Clubs & Organizations Files and the Family Files. The system is set up and ready to go. If you enjoy interesting facts and attention to detail, give us a call and talk to Becci.

RSVP:

• The roof on the Senior Center is being replaced this week.

• Staff continued to provide dine-in and delivery meals for seniors in the community.

• Staff submitted necessary documentation to the funding agency.

Library:

• Work has begun on the skylight replacement. Thanks to all our patrons who have been very gracious about using the front parking area only!

• New Halloween themed gift items in the display case in the hallway so come see what we have! We have some crazy skeletons dancing on the walls in the main hallway! Bring the kids up to see them!

• The annual reporting to the Nebraska Library Commission is beginning, which allows for accreditation of the library in comparison with our state peers. Typically, Alliance fares very well in this comparison which is largely due to the staff efforts and support from the City of Alliance. Our patron and circulation numbers also play a part in this, so thanks to all those who utilize the library and all its services.

• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn continues to see a strong attendance for Story Time and LEGO Club, with new children and youth joining us! She has created displays featuring Book Club selections for Youth and Young Adults and Halloween. She also created a Halloween themed “Wiggleworms” for the APL website. She is looking forward to Autumn craft sessions for Preschool-12th grade next week on October 11.

• Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart catalogued new books and continued working on Fiction Inventory and the series cards. She put up a new display featuring some of the sadder books from our collection and helped put up a Halloween display to bring in the spooky season. She also created a survey for the book club to choose what we will be reading for our upcoming meetings, and set up our new video magnifier that will allow patrons to magnify printed type, handwriting, images, and small details.

• Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson prepared the monthly Director’s Report with the circulation statistics from September, updated the website with programming information, processed ILL’s for patrons and book clubs, and assisted patrons on the computers. She also prepared for next week’s visit with author Tosca Lee, who will be presenting at the library on October 13th at 6:00p.m.

• Library Clerks Pam Becker and Kris Wilder have been busy helping with displays and investigating new items for the bookstore!

Parks:

• Painted pickle ball lines on the two Northeast tennis courts to ensure courts are available for use if the basketball court is in use.

• Cleaned silt from around the storm sewer inlet at the Bower Baseball field parking lot to improve drainage and prepare to spread gravel in the parking lot.

• Leveled the dirt and graded around the tennis courts in preparation for seed or sod.

• Mowed and trimmed the softball complex in preparation for the tournament this weekend.

• Prepared the area and moved rollouts, picnic tables, and a dumpster to holy field for the homecoming tailgate on Friday.

• Winterized the irrigation at most of the big parks, only the softball complex and cemetery are left.

• Started trimming along the curbs of the bigger parks.

Fire:

• Panhandle PET Region Zoom meeting.

• Provided stand-by for the AHS burning of the A for homecoming.

• Chief participated in the state’s 911 Service System Advisory Committee’s GIS working group Zoom meeting.

• Chief assisted with interviews for the Airport Maintenance worker open position.

• Chief attended the Scotts Bluff County Mutual Aid association meeting to gather information on the opportunity for the fire department to join.

• Fire truck rides for kindergartners as part of fire prevention week today. Fire Prevention week is October 9th – 15th. The Fire Prevention Week theme is “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape”.

HR:

• Updating job descriptions following changes to the Classification Plan as part of the budget process.

• Conducting interviews for open positions and completing pre-employment screening on candidates.

• Extended conditional employment offers to two Police Officer applicants and conducted Police Officer testing for new applicants.

• Facilitated Employee Flu Shots on Tuesday.

• Preparing for first payroll of the new fiscal year incorporating COLA.

• Continue to assist employees in their requests.

Electric:

• Continue to make progress on the rebuild of the alley of Emerson/Platte 10th to 18th Street.

• Started a line extension for a new building at Red Beard Garage.

• Started energizing the control boxes for the Police Department cameras.

• All department personnel attended the monthly safety meeting presented by NECC on GHS Hazard communication.

BBDC:

• Listened in on Rural Workforce Housing zoom Monday, another grant round will open sometime this October.

• Tuesday planned October (Industry), November (Education), and January (Local Government) Leadership Box Butte Sessions.

• Thursday planning NEDA Annual Meeting in Lincoln come May – 50th Anniversary.

• Friday participating in Rural Fellow zoom with Dr. Fagen to discuss revisions of program for 2023.

• Planning Hemingford Career Day October 26th.

Airport:

• Taxiway/Apron Rehabilitation project has been mostly idle this week. Asphalt should start on Wednesday.

• Interviews for our maintenance worker position took place on Thursday.

• September passenger counts were 340 enplaned and 327 deplaned.
