Reviewing Predictions

The Nebraska football team will play at Penn State this Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 5 pm MST on NBC Television

As of this writing, Penn State is a 10.5-point favorite.

UCLA was a 2.5-point favorite to beat Nebraska on November 8. So, oddsmakers are not always correct.

Here’s hoping NU will wear the all-red road pants again. NU has not lost while donning them this year. NU’s only road loss was when the Huskers wore the wimpy all-whites at Minnesota on October 17. That was on a Friday night when Nebraska made an illegal merge into the lane of high school football.

To be precise, it was the fault of the Big 10 Network for grabbing Nebraska’s steering wheel and forcing Nebraska to play on a night reserved for high schools.

I am still fighting that horrid change. But, heck, Nebraskans are now guzzling ten-dollar beers at Memorial Stadium. As I wrote two weeks ago, I am failing at keeping up with the changing world of college athletics.

In my October 8 column, I offered a few predictions. Six weeks later, let’s check the report card.

Nebraska volleyball will win the 2025 national championship.

After defeating UCLA and USC in Los Angeles over the weekend, NU remains undefeated at 26-0. While the odds may be in Nebraska’s favor, there is still tons of volleyball to play. The Huskers have regular season bouts with Iowa, Penn State and Ohio State in Lincoln and a trip to Indiana.

Unless the Big Red experiences a total collapse, they should be the December tournament’s top seed and play more matches in Lincoln.

If the Cornhuskers can advance to the Final Four, it will basically be more home matches. Kansas City is a short distance for die hard volleyball fans to travel. In case you have forgotten, Nebraska won the 2017 national title in Kansas City.

The Denver Broncos will win the AFC West.

After the Broncos beat the Chiefs, 22-19, this past Sunday, this looks like a shoo-in. Especially with the L.A. Chargers losing to Jacksonville.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play for the AFC championship but lose to Buffalo.

Anything is possible. But the Chiefs need to first qualify for the playoffs. With seven games yet to play, it can happen.

The Bills will win Super Bowl LX.

I am sticking to this prediction big time!

Hemingford football will play at least two games in the Class D-1 playoffs.

I nailed this one. The Bobcats played three games in the post-season and won two!

Alliance football will enjoy a record of five wins and four losses.

Well, I came close. The Bulldogs finished with four wins and five losses. Can we replay that game at Lexington?

I grow frustrated with not keeping up with the changes in college football, such as the transfer portal, but the transfer portal in college basketball has been a shining light for Husker men’s basketball.

Pryce Sandfort, who transferred to NU from the Iowa Hawkeyes is lighting up the scoreboard. He tallied 28 points Saturday night in the Huskers 105-99 victory over Oklahoma. He is only a junior, so we get to enjoy his rainbow shots from 20+ feet for two years.

In two Hawkeye victories over Nebraska last year, Sandfort scored 11 and 16 points respectively.

No. 21 is a welcome addition to Fred Hoiberg’s cage team.

The 2025-26 Nebraska basketball season could be an enjoyable viewing, listening and writing experience.

That includes the ladies, too, who, like the men’s team, is off to a 4-0 start.
