Roger L. Smith Obituary

Roger L. Smith, 56, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 12, 2023 at his home in Alliance.

He was born February 8, 1967 in Alliance to Wendel L and Frances Jean (Mundt) Smith.

He was the youngest son with 3 brothers, John, Derald and Delmar, and he was able to be the older brother to his sister, Sandy. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1986. During this time in his life he had a need for speed and would race with any car no matter what it was. He was going to make it go fast. He enjoyed doing this with his 78’ Trans Am. A few years after high school he began his 35 year long career at Dayco, now known as Parker. When he was 28 years old he became a father of his oldest son, Tyson. Then 3 years later he gained his youngest son, Sean.  After they were born he focused on raising his boys and working.

When he was not working he was spending his time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling with his boys during the school year and turkey hunting and fishing with them during the spring and summer.

After his boys became adults he made them each a priority and continued to spend time with them. Roger had not bowled since his boys were younger but decided to pick it back up as a way to spend time with his boys on Friday night league. He also enjoyed relaxing and splitting a six pack of beer with them and jamming to 80s rock. In the summer, he enjoyed cornhole in the evenings and fishing on the weekends.

As it always showed, he was a family man. He adored his grandkids and being able to spoil them. One of his favorite ways to spoil them was celebrating the 4th of July. Each and every year had to be better than the last. He was very proud about the firework show that he put on and made sure to save all his quarters throughout the year to pay for more and more fireworks.

He is survived by his sons, Tyson (Maria) Smith and Sean Smith, and his grandchildren, Kaylyn, Ellie, & Bristol. He is also survived by his brothers, Delmar, John and Derald Smith and his sister, Sandy Clark, all of Alliance, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Friday, February 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates- Gould Chapel with a reception to follow at Bowl Mor Lanes.

Memorials may be sent to Sean & Tyson Smith at 1045 Duncan Ave, Alliance, NE 69301.
