Wet and foggy conditions greeted athletes on Friday to Laing Lake for the Alliance Cross Country Invite. A nice crowd weathered the elements and got to see some fine performances. Fifteen Middle School and High School squads participated in the event. Winning ways continued for Alliance’s Penn Vergil who was first in the Middle School girl’s race. Vergil clocked in 12:37. Hemingford got a second place effort from Sophomore Fletcher Moseman who ended with a time of 17:08.
In the team competition, AMS won the girl’s title with 29 points with Mitchell second with 33. Hemingford took fifth. Mitchell was winner in the Junior High boy’s competition with 28. Alliance finished 6th and the Bobcats ended 10th. Winners in the JV competition were the Sidney boys and the Scottsbluff girls. Gering was the champion in the High School boy’s level with Alliance finishing third. Taking home the trophy in the High School girl’s division was Gordon-Rushville while the Lady Bulldogs took sixth.
