Chase County High School from Imperial came to town Friday for the football home opener, taking on the Alliance Bulldogs. Both clubs fell in their first contests last week. Using a strong defensive effort and a big night from Dog running back Trini Trejo, it was AHS getting the win 35 to 7. Alliance goes to 1 and 1 for the year. Trini scored all 5 touchdowns for the Bulldogs and ended with 253 yards on 23 carries. Outside linebacker Caysen Robertson was a force for Alliance, finishing with an interception and a fumble recovery. Robertson added a sack later in the affair. Alliance was up 22 to 0 at halftime then scored two more times in the second half in posting the W. Chase scored late for their lone tally.
A pick by Robertson on the opening series set up the Dog’s first TD. Alliance got the ball at the 25 and scored later on a 2 yard touchdown run by Trejo. Quarterback Jackson Shelmadine added the PAT. Both teams would punt of their next drive and the period closed with Alliance ahead 8 to 0.
Quarter #2 began with the Dogs having the ball at midfield. It would take AHS 8 plays to increase their margin as Trejo scored from the 23. Antonio Valdovinos extra point kick was good and at the 9 minute mark, the Dog lead went to 15 to 0. A stop for a loss by Alliance linebacker Nason Thompson highlighted the next series as the Longhorns went three and out. Starting at the 43, the Dogs used an 8 play series to score right before half. Shelmadine connected with Wyatt Stabnow for a 15 yard gain as AHS got close. Trejo scored his third TD on a 10 yard scamper later in the possession. Valdovinos added the point after and the half ended with the Bulldogs up 22 to 0.
Alliance would get a nice kick return by Jackson Devlin covering 30 yards to began the third. Trejo keyed the series with a couple of strong carries and a 36 yard pass reception from Shelmadine that put the ball inside the 5. With 10 minutes left in the quarter, Trejo scored from the one. Valdovinos added the PAT that put the Alliance advantage at 29 to 0. The rest of the period had both teams go scoreless. Alliance got some nice defensive stops by end Lucas Weber and a pick by Jaxon Poss in keeping the shutout alive. Heading to the fourth, AHS was ahead 29 to 0.
Alliance ‘s final score came early in the 4th. Trejo went 76 yards for his fifth TD on the night. The extra point was no good. A sack by Robertson on the ensuing drive kept the Horns off the board. With 1:01 remaining, Chase scored on a 22 yard TD pass. The point after kick was good and the game closed with AHS getting the victory 35 to 7.
