Saying Goodbye to 2020

While talking with a group of Girl Scouts from around Alliance, we reflected on the ups and downs of 2020. In true Girl Scout fashion, the girls easily gravitated to the good things that came out of such a challenging year. They shared with me all the community service projects they were able to participate in and how those moments of helping others brought them closer as a troop. Lena Walters, from Troop 10324 loves taking part in World Clean up day. She and her mother, Charlie are pledging to dream up new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle this year!

A year with so many speed bumps only inspired the girls to look for the needs in their towns and take action to meet those needs. Girl Scout Troop 10308 have become familiar faces at the Community Table in Alliance. They have put in countless hours assembling meals for pick-up and delivery. They love being a part of such an essential service to the growing food insecurity issue faced by so many. They find creative ways to make all their tasks fun. Their troop co-leader, Audrey Hoerler couldn’t be more proud of them.

An Ambassador Girl Scout shared her disappointment in camp cancellations, but found that the silver lining was more time to pursue badges independently. She has gained so much confidence in her ability to conquer huge goals this year. 2020 was a gift of time to invest in herself. She said, “Camps and programs bring us together as a sisterhood, but being a Girl Scout will always start from within.”

Goodbye 2020, Girl Scouts accepted your MANY challenges and continued to make the world a better place.
