Six to Five Loss Ends Tournament for Blue Sox

In a six innings affair, it was the Gering Top Dawgs downing the Peltz Co Blue Sox 6 to 5 in baseball action on Sunday. Gering scored three times in their last at bat in posting the win. With the defeat, the Sox end the 2 day tourney with a 1 and 4 record. Canton Devlin and Zeke Dean were the hurlers for the Sox. Alliance completed the day with 4 hits with Devlin leading the way with 2 knocks.

Action was close in the first. Alliance scored three in the opening frame while Gering plated 2. An rbi hit by Devlin highlighted a 3 run first for the Sox. The Dawgs came back with a 2 spot in the home half and the contest went to the second with the Peltz Co holding the lead 3 to 2.

Alliance got second frame knocks from Parks Sylvester and Von Krejci but no runs. Devlin kept the advantage in tack with a scoreless bottom of the second. Alliance increased its margin in the third with 2 more tallies. A hit by Devlin and an RBI groundout by Dean made it 5 to 2. Gering went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. Alliance’s bats went silenced in the fourth while a double play turned by the Sox kept their lead at 3.

Down 5 to 2, Gering began their comeback. First, the Dawgs held the Sox scoreless in the top of the fifth. The hosts then used an Alliance error and a wild pitch to close the gap to 5 to 3. In the sixth, the Peltz Co fail to score. Gering then won the battle with 3 in the home half. The Dawgs used 3 hits, a couple of walks, and a wild pitch in getting the W 6 to 5.
