Slugfest Goes to Rapid City 18 to 10

Baseball fans who like offense were treated to quite a show on Saturday. Rapid City defeated Alliance 18 to 10 in game 2 on a doubleheader between the 2 squads. The guests from Rapid also captured game 1, besting the Seniors 7 to 4. An eight run fourth inning by Post 22 put the Alliance deficit at 12, 15 to 3. The Spartans would put 6 runs on the board in the fifth but it wasn’t enough. Four Seniors took the mound for the Peltz Co. They were: starter Lexton Salcido, Nason Thompson, Mike Johnson, and EJ Garcia. On offense, the Spartans ended with 10 hits and were led by a 3 hit effort by Espen Lanik.

Both clubs scored one run in their first at bats. Down 1 to 0, Alliance got hits by Lanik and Tony Escamilla and an error by the Expos to knot the affair at 1. Four more Rapid runs in the second made it a 5 to 1 ball game. The Peltz Co countered with a three spot in the home half. A two run double by Johnson along with an RBI single by Lanik had the board read Rapid City 5 Alliance 4 after two innings of action.

Post 12 increased its advantage in the top of inning three. Using 2 singles and a double, the Expos went up 7 to 4. Carver Nemnich had a hit for the Seniors in the bottom of the frame but he was left on the base paths. Rapid put the nail in the coffin in the top of the fourth with 8 big scores. Down 15 to 4, the Senior’s bats were cold in their attempt for a comeback in the bottom of the fourth as the game went to the fifth with the Spartans down 11.

Three more Expos tallies in their last at bat made the score 18 to 4. The Spartans responded with 6 runs in the home half. Knocks by Lanik and Escamilla began the scoring. A bases loaded walk by Nemnich made it a 18 to 5 contest. Jaxson Esparza was next and his double drove in 2 more. Down 11, the Spartans received a 2 run single by Salcido and an RBI hit by Kegan Rodriguez to get within 8 but more runs were scored. Final Rapid 18 Alliance 10
