An instant classic took place on Wednesday in Alliance. It featured the Spartans and the Zephyrs. And when the dust settled, it was the hosts getting the win 4 to 2. Three big hits by Senior Nason Thompson propelled the Spartans. A double play turned in the top of the seventh gave Alliance the W. Kegan Rodriguez started and went into the fourth. Also tossing were Fletcher Moseman and Carver Nemnich. The Peltz Co closed with 7 hits.
Scottsbluff scored first with a tally in the opener while a hit by Thompson gave the Seniors hope. He was left on the paths. Two Rodriguez’s strikeouts in the second kept the Zephyrs off the board. Alliance tied the contest in the home half thanks to a knock by Jaxson Esparza and a Nemnich sac fly. In the third, the Peltz Co took the lead. Rodriguez had a quiet frame and the Spartans went up by 1 after doubles by Espen Lanik and Thompson. After three, the Spartans were ahead 2 to 1.
Play remained tight in the fourth. The guests were denied any scores in the top. Another rbi delivered by Thompson put the Bluff’s deficit at 2. Frame 5 had the visitors score and make it 3 to 2. Esparza singled in the bottom of the inning but didn’t cross . After holding the Zephyrs scoreless in the top of the sixth, Alliance got an insurance tally. Escamilla walked and scored the Peltz Co ‘s fourth run after an RBI swing by Rodriguez. Up by 2, the Spartans closed out their rivals with a game ending twin killing in their last attempt. Final.
