Tolstedt to be Inducted into Hall of Fame

Lance Tolstedt to be inducted into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame on June 12. There are 3 wrestling coaches, 5 competitors, 2 officials and 3 other contributors who will be inducted also. Tolstedt is being honored for his success as a competitor.

Tolstedt graduated from Kearney High School in 1999, and was the 1999 Kearney Hub Territory Wrestler of the Year, the 1999 Kearney Hub Territory Male Athlete of the Year, and a finalist for the Omaha World-Herald Male Athlete of the Year Award. Tolstedt was a two-time heavyweight state champion, going undefeated his junior and senior seasons, putting together a 64-match winning streak. He finished his high school career with four conference championships and a 109-21 record. Lance was an outstanding football player with an invitation to play football for Nebraska. Tolstedt also won the gold medal as a state champ in the 1999 State Track and Field Meet in the shot put.

Tolstedt was the recipient of the Dave Schultz Award as Nebraska’s top wrestler and went on to wrestle for UNO.

Tolstedt presently has his doctorate as a clinical pharmacist at UNMC in Omaha, is married and has two young children. His parents are Peggy Tolstedt, of Kearney, and Steve Tolstedt, of Alliance.
