Weber Medals at State Wrestling

Creel Weber, of Hemingford, took home some hardware from the state wrestling tournament, placing sixth in the Class D, 113 weight division.

Weber began his journey at state taking on Ashton Sinn, of Thayer Central in the first round. After beating Sinn with a 6-5 decision, he advanced to the quarterfinal where Hunter Bennett, of Elkhorn Valley, pinned Weber.

Going into the consolation round two, Weber won against Cody Booth, of Neligh-Oakdale, pinning him in 2:30. In the third consolation round, Weber was pitted against Jaxon Smith, of Elm Creek, where he won by an 11-5 decision. In the consolation semifinal, Carter Beckman, of Elgin/Pope John, pinned Weber.

In the fifth-place match, Eli Paxton, of Mullen, pinned Weber, setting him at sixth place in the state wrestling tournament.

Three wrestlers from Alliance also competed at the state wrestling tournament: Jaxon Minnick wrestled in the 132 weight class, Asa Johnson wrestled in the 145 weight class, and Philip Halstead wrestled in the 160 weight class.

In the first round, Minnick was defeated by Reece Jaqua, of Wayne. In the first consolation round, Minnick won against Blake Bolling, of Pierce, pinning him in 4:23. In the second consolation round, Minnick’s journey at state was ended by AJ Parrish, of Bennington, who won by a 13-7 decision.

Johnson defeated Bayler Poston, of Nebraska City in the first round of the tournament, advancing to the quarterfinal, where he was defeated by Charlie Powers, of Blair in a 4-3 decision.

The second consolation round saw a battle of two Bulldogs as Johnson wrestled against Albert Stone, of Gering. Johnson won by major decision, 17-4. In the third consolation round, Connor Wells, of Broken Bow, won against Johnson with a 4-3 decision, bringing Johnson’s state tournament experience to an end.

Halstead battled against Eliott Steinhoff, of Platteview, in the first round, pinning him in 3:52. In the quarterfinal, Michael Kruntorad, of Pierce, won by decision over Halstead, 10-6.

In the second consolation round, Halstead defeated Jarrett Koch, of Beatrice, with a 7-2 decision. In the third consolation round, however, Alex Banuelos, of Minden, defeated Halstead by a 5-3 decision.
