Eight runs was a little too short for the Alliance Prep baseball team in a ball game versus the Westco Express on Tuesday. The Spartans ended with 7 hits but fell to the Storm 13 to 8 in a contest played in Scottsbluff. In the five inning affair, the Peltz Co was down early. Three runs in both the third and fourth pulled the guests close but in the end, the Express’s lead was too much to overcome. The offensive star on the night was Esai Trejo who collected three of the Alliance’s 7 hits. Pitching for the Spartans were Trejo who started and reliever Braden Myers. The contest was the first game of a doubleheader between the squads.
A double by Trejo in the top of the opening inning got Alliance off to a nice start. Trejo was unfortunately left on the bases. The Express surged ahead in the bottom of the frame with 2 tallies. A couple of hits and a steal of home made the score WESTCO 2 Peltz Co 0 after one complete inning. Alliance got a run back in the top of inning 2. Myers double and scored on an RBI groundout by Sonny Hernandez. Up to 2 to 1, the Storm increased their margin in the home half of the second. Westco pushed 5 runs across to go up 7 to 1. The hosts used a little bit of everything to go up by 6. Scottsbluff had a couple of hits, a few walks, and 2 errors by Alliance to take a big lead. Both teams had success in the 3rd. The Peltz Co plated 3 to slice their deficit to 7 to 4. Silas Lilley-Stone started the rally with a single and later scored when Dixon Bair’s hard hit was booted by the Storm. A run scoring hit by Trejo was next that scored Bair and made the score 7 to 3. Eventually, Trejo scored run #4 on a passed ball by the Bluffs. Westco answered the Peltz Co rally with a 4 spot in the bottom of the inning. The Storm once again used a variety of ways to increase their advantage. Two hits plus a couple of miscues by Alliance and some walks had the scoreboard reading WESTCO 11 Alliance 4 after three innings of action.
Westco’s comfortable lead dwindled in the fourth as the Prep scored 3 times to make things interesting. Walks by Carson Stroud and Drayden Konopnicki sent Bair to the plate. The Spartan shortstop loaded the bases with a hit. Trejo followed with a run scoring single that made the score 11 to 5. The Peltz Co then got a 2 run scoring hit by AJ Garcia to pull within 4. In home half, the Express got one thanks to a walk and an RBI groundout. Heading to the final inning, Westco was up 12 to 7.
Both teams pushed one across in their final at bat. Myers walk and later score Alliance’s 8th run on a passed ball. The Storm finished the game with one tally on a walk and a single. Final Westco 13 Peltz Co 8
