Navy Team Sunk by Rapid City 13 to 3

A doubleheader was played in Alliance on Wednesday between the Alliance Navy squad and the Sliders from Rapid City. Game one was all Sliders. The visitors downed the Spartans 13 to 3. With the defeat, the Peltz Co now sees their record drop to 10 wins and 11 losses for the season. Alliance also has one tie. Rapid jumped to a big 8 to 1 lead in the second inning and never trailed in the first game of the twin bill. Four Spartans were on the bump with starter Carson Stull going the first 2 frames. Also pitching for Alliance were: Jackson Devlin, Reese Muhr, and Teagan O’Gorman. The Navy club had 7 hits for the evening with Israel Garcia leading the offense with 2 knocks.

Rapid snatched the early momentum with 3 runs in the opening inning. The Sliders used a couple of hits and sacrifice flies to take a 3 to 0 lead after a half inning of action. Alliance got one back in the bottom of the inning. Garcia reached after an error by the guests and scored Alliance’s first tally after an RBI single by Fletcher Moseman. Muhr also singled in the inning but failed to score. Up 3 to 1, the Sliders put 5 more runs of the board in the top of the second. Rapid City used a pair of 2 run singles plus a couple of walks to go up 8 to 1. The Peltz Co countered with a score in the home half of the frame. Devlin walked, stole second, and scored the Spartans’ second run following a miscue by the guests.

Inning #3 saw both teams go scoreless. Garcia had a knock for Alliance in the bottom of the inning. He was stranded on the bases and the game went to the fourth with the Peltz Co down 8 to 2. Two runs on 3 hits by the Sliders in the fourth gave the visitors an 8 run cushion. Spartan Miguel Galvan singled for Alliance in the bottom of the inning and didn’t score. In the fifth, Rapid went down 1-2-3 while the Spartans added a score. A hit by Garcia started the mini rally. Garcia scored Alliance’s third run thanks to an RBI hit by Tanner Salcido. No runs were put into the scoring column in the sixth. Stull had a hit for the Spartans in their attempt in the bottom of the inning. Heading to the final inning, the Peltz Co was down 10 to 3. The Sliders put the contest away in the seventh with 3 more tallied. Alliance failed to score in the bottom of the inning and the contest came to a close with Rapid winning 13 to 3.
