A three tally final inning gave the Sliders of Rapid City a win over the Alliance Navy team 12 to 9 in game 2 of a doubleheader played in Alliance on Wednesday. Rapid also got the victory in the opening game, downing the Peltz Co 13 to 3 to began the action. With the loss, the Spartans fell to 10-12 and one for the year. Alliance tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with 3 runs but a 3 spot by the visitors in their final at bat was enough to get the win. The battle was a six inning affair. Three Spartans were on the hill with starter Casyn Nelson going 2 innings. Also pitching for the Peltz Co were Tanner Salcido and Teagan O’Gorman. Salcido had 2 of the 6 hits for the Spartans.
Inning #1 had the guests taking the early lead. The Sliders plated 4 runs to get the momentum. Rapid used a 2 run single and a 2 run double to go up 4 to 0. Alliance went scoreless in their at bat in the bottom of the frame. The Spartans were the aggressor in the second. Alliance held the visitors without a run and took the lead with 5 in the home half. The Peltz Co did most of the damage with 2 outs. A single by Kyler Hamel started the rally. Nelson then walked as the attack continued. Miscues by the Sliders then resulted in Alliance’s first 2 tallies. An RBI knock by Salcido then made the scoreboard read Rapid 4 Alliance 3. The inning closed with an error by the Sliders that accounted for 2 more runs by the Peltz Co. Heading to the third, Alliance had a 5 to 4 lead.
Another key 2 run double by RC in the third gave the lead back to the guests. In the bottom of the third, the Navy club would get a hit by Miguel Galvan and no scores. Up 6 to 5, the Sliders pushed 1 across in the top of the fourth. An Alliance error plus a double made the score 7 to 5. The Spartans sliced into their deficit in the home half with one run. An RBI groundout by Salcido plated Alliance’s sixth run. Both squads found success in the fifth. Rapid scored twice to surge ahead 9 to 6. A huge triple by the guests in the middle of the inning helped the Sliders go up by 3. Alliance responded with three in the bottom of the inning to knot the battle at 9. A knock by Spartan Dixon Bair started the rally. Both Hamel and Nelson walked to load the sacks for Israel Garcia. The leadoff batter also walked, driving in run 7. Salcido was next and the Spartan pitcher tied the game with a 2 run scoring single. The game went to the final inning tied at 9. A couple of Alliance errors helped the Sliders gain a 3 run advantage in the sixth. Rapid also used a 2 RBI single to take a 12 to 9 lead. The Navy team went down in order in their last at bat.
