Sidney is hosting a 10U baseball tournament this weekend with teams from all over the area. Alliance opened the tourney on Friday night with a contest against Yuma. Down early, the Blue Sox rallied to down the Outlaws 5 to 4. The Peltz Co got good starting pitching from Levi Escamilla and three shutout frames from reliever Canton Devlin in posting the win. At the plate, the Sox ended with 6 hits with Zeke Dean the leader with 2.
A pair of nice defensive plays by Alliance’s Marshall Moseman at shortstop denied Yuma any scores in the top of the first. The Peltz Co also went scoreless in the first at bat. Yuma’s bats came alive in the second. The Outlaws plated 4 to take the lead. Escamilla did have three strikeouts in the frame. Alliance came in the home half. Using three straight knocks, the Peltz Co pushed one across. Dean, Eugenio Lopez, and Slade Harris all singled and the contest went to the third with the Blue Sox down by 3.
Momentum stayed with Alliance in the third. Devlin threw a scoreless inning in the top while the Sox tied the game with 3 tallies in the bottom of the frame. Grady Mulhern walk and later scored on an RBI groundout by Escamilla. After a hit by Moseman, Devlin singled that made it 4 to 3. A pair of errors by Yuma then plated Devlin and the affair went to inning #4 all tied up at four all.
Two strikeouts by Devlin in the top of the fourth kept the score knotted at 4 while the Peltz Co took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Dean singled and scored on an RBI groundout by Parks Sylvester. Devlin had a scoreless fifth on the mound as the Blue Sox hung on for the 5 to 4 victory.
