Action for the Alliance volleyball team continued Saturday at the Douglas Invite with a contest with Glenrock. In a pair of closely fought sets, it was the Herders getting the win. Glenrock won set one 25 to 23 and took the second 25 to 20. With the loss, Alliance drops 1 and 4 on the year. Set #1 was a thriller with the Bulldogs down 24 to 23 before the Herders scored the final tally.
Two ace serves by Alliance’s Ahrianna Galvan got the Dogs off to a nice start in the opener. A kill by Ryli Poss then tied the affair at 3. Following a point by Olivia Krejci which knotted the ball game at 7, Glenrock posted the next point to surge ahead. Back came the Bulldogs with a kill by Brooke Bailey and an ace serve by Kenley Jelinek, Alliance went up by 1. Poss then had a kill and 2 points later in the set as the Dogs took the lead at 15 to 13. The teams would trade blows later in the set with the Dogs getting three kills by Maslin Breen. Another Jelinek tally put the score at 22 to 19 in favor of the Herders. The set closed with 2 points by Alliance’s Jadyn Aguallo and a kill by Kaitlyn Shannon. Unfortunately, it was Glenrock scoring the final point and taking the set 25 to 23.
Momentum stayed with the Herders in set 2. Glenrock roared out to an 8 to 2 lead before the Dogs got a kill by Krejci. Poss then went to the service line and ran off three straight at AHS pulled to within 2. Kills then ensued by Krejic and Galvan, making it a 13 to 11 contest. Glenrock responded with a nice spurt as the Herders surge ahead 19 to 13. Alliance then got another ace spike by Poss and a point from Andre Girard to get to within 4. Three straight by Glenrock followed, putting the Dog deficit at 6. Kills by Breen and Krejci later in the set gave AHS hope but in the end it was the Herders closing out the set and the match.
