Baseball action in Alliance concluded Wednesday with a matchup between the Seniors and Sidney. Alliance got a complete game shutout by Carver Nemnich in defeating the guests 8 to 0. Nemnich went all 5 frames and had 8 strikeouts. At the dish, Tony Escamilla hammered out 3 of the Spartan’s eight hits. The game was the finale of a Tri featuring both squads and Chadron. Alliance beat Chadron in the opener. The Peltz Co scored 6 times in the third in getting the win. With the victory, Alliance goes to 33 and 11.
Runs were tough to come by in the first 2 innings. Sidney failed to get into the scoring column in the top of the first while the Seniors got one. A triple by Alliance’s Nason Thompson was followed by an RBI swing by Escamilla as the Spartans surged ahead. Two Ks by Nemnich in the top of frame #2 kept the hosts ahead. The Peltz Co also came up empty in the second and action went to the third with the Seniors ahead 1 to 0.
Nemnich would strike the side in the top of the third to keep his shutout alive. Alliance’s O came to life in the home half of the third with 6 tallies. It started with a Thompson free pass and a hit by Escamilla. Up next was Nemnich who singled in run 2. A wild pitch then made it 3 to 0. Kobe Strom kept the rally alive with a single while another wild pitch put the visitor’s deficit at 4. A pair of errors by the guests ended the scoring with the Spartans leading 7 to 0. Action was quiet in the fourth. Nemnich had a strikeout in the frame as Sidney again went scoreless. Escamilla had a knock in the bottom of the frame but was stranded. With 4 innings in the book, the Peltz Co was up 7 to 0.
Alliance again was stingy in Sidney’s last at bat. Nemnich had a K while the Spartans turned a double play to maintain their advantage. In the bottom of the fifth, the Seniors ended the contest with a run. Strom singled and scored after a hit by EJ Garcia and a pair of Sidney miscues. Final. Alliance 8. Sidney 0
