Five Spartans ended with 2 hits each in a win over Gering 13 to 1 in Junior League baseball on Wednesday. Up just by 1 heading into the fourth, Alliance put eight on the board and improved to 11 and 6 for the year. The contest was played in Gering. Finishing with 2 knocks apiece were Juniors: Israel Garcia, Teagen O’Gorman, Miguel Galvan, Jackson Shelmadine, and Creighton Fritzler. The Peltz Co got three solid innings from starter Galvan and 2 frames from relief hurler Jackson Devlin.
Early hits by O’Gorman and Galvan keyed a one run first. Down 1 to 0, B&C Steel threaten in the home half but a twin killing by the Spartans kept the hosts out of the scorebook. Shelmadine had a hit in the second but didn’t cross home. In the bottom of the second, Gering also failed to score. Alliance extended its advantage in the third with 2 more tallies. Garcia singled and scored on an RBI groundout by O’Gorman. Ahead 2 to 0, the Peltz Co scored one more time thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tanner Salcido. Again, Galvan was super on the hill as B&C went scoreless. With three frames in the book, the Spartans were up 3 to 0.
Inning four had the Juniors pull away with 8 runs. Shelmadine was hit by a pitch to start the rally. A hit by Fritzler followed and a sacrifice bunt the Kyler Hamel made it 4 to 0. After a walk by O’Gorman, Galvan connected for an RBI single. Ahead by 5, Salcido walked with the bases full as the Spartans went up by 6. The Alliance margin then went to 8 on a 2 run double by Braeden Clarke. Shelmadine then added another 2 run double. Scoring ended with a hit by Fritzler with the Peltz Co in control 11 to 0. Gering got one back in the bottom of the fourth but another double play by the Juniors limited the damage. Heading to the fifth, the guests enjoyed a 11 to 1 lead.
Two more Spartan tallies sealed the win in the top of frame #5. Knocks by Garcia and O’Gorman keyed the scoring. The Peltz Co last 2 scores came on a steal of home and a sacrifice fly by Salcido. In Gering’s last at bat, Devlin put them down in order. Final Spartans 13 Gering 1
