Gary C. Lawrence, 73, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 with his wife and son at his side.
He was born March 12, 1950 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to Clifford E. and Donna (Westlake) Lawrence.
He graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1968. On July 27, 1974 he married Becky L. Russell at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Gary was a history buff. He taught ninth grade Social Studies at the Alliance Public Schools for two years after earning his bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College in 1978. He then went to work as an electrician for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for many years. He was a Cub Scout Den and Pack Leader for Pack 207 for three years. Gary knew a lot about nature and enjoyed going for rides in western Nebraska to see the wildlife. He enjoyed fishing for pan fish and time with his fishing buddies. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan no matter the sport! He was a loving husband and dad and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Lawrence of Alliance; his son, Brian Lawrence of Casper, WY; his mother, Donna Lawrence of Hay Springs; his sister, Judy (Lewis) McKenney of Hay Springs; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Randy (Nancy) Scheidies and family of Minden and Dennis (Barb) Cramer and family of Broken Bow. He was preceded in death by his father, his niece Shannon McKenney, and his great niece, Nikki Scheidies.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held next summer. Memorials to help defer medical costs may be sent in care of the family at, 1751 CR 69, Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.
