Hamel and Moseman Dominate Douglas 3 to 1

Action in Torrington had Alliance taking on Douglas on Thursday morning. Strong starting pitching from Spartan’s Kyler Hamel lifted the Juniors past the Cats 3 to 1. Hamel pitched into the sixth inning and had four strikeouts. Alliance’s Fletcher Moseman finished up and garnered the save. The Peltz Co grabbed an early lead then withstood a late Douglas rally. At the plate, the Spartans were led by Teagen O’Gorman who had three of the Junior’s seven knocks.

Douglas hit first and were turned away. In the home half, the Juniors scored once. Hits by Israel Garcia and O’Gorman got the Spartans off to a strong start. An RBI groundout by Jace Jensen made it 1 to 0 after one inning of action.

Hamel recorded a k in the top of the second as the Cats went scoreless. Alliance had a chance to increase their margin in the bottom of the second with hits by Casyn Rodriguez and O’Gorman but both runners were left on the sacks. Inning #3 was a strong one for the Peltz Co. No runs were scored by Douglas while the Spartans got 2. Miguel Galvan reached on an error and moved into scoring position after a walk by Carson Stull. Alliance’s second tally came after an RBI bunt single by Jayden Garcia. A sac fly by Moseman ensued as the game went to the fourth frame with the Juniors up 3 to 0.

Key plays by the Spartan’s defense kept Alliance on top in the later innings. Three strikeouts by Hamel in the fourth was the highlight of the frame. O’Gorman had a hit also in the fourth. Douglas was turned away in the fifth as the Juniors had a double play. A double by Stull gave the Peltz Co hope in the bottom of the fifth but no runs were plated. Once again, the Cats threatened in their next at bat. After a Douglas hit, the Spartans turned another DP to keep the shutout in order. Alliance also failed to score in the sixth and the game went to the seventh with Alliance ahead 3 to 0.

Things got interesting in the top of the final frame. Douglas uses three hits to close to 3 to 1. Hamel was relieved by Moseman who quickly struck out his first batter. The affair then ended with a fly out and the Peltz Co getting the victory 3 to 1.
