Action at the Area 7 district tournament came to an end in McCook on Tuesday with a matchup between the Spartan’s Juniors and McCook. Alliance got a complete gem from starter Kyler Hamel to defeat First Central Bank 8 to 0. With the W, the Peltz Co ends the tourney 3 and 0 in taking home the first place trophy. The Spartans will continue their season with a trip to Wayne for the Class B state tournament starting on Sunday. Alliance will take a 35 and 15 record to state. Hamel allowed just 2 hits in the 5 inning affair and struck out 7. The Juniors scored twice in the first and fourth then put the contest away with 4 in their last at bat in the bottom of the fifth. Leading the offense with 2 hits each were: Teagen O’Gorman, Casyn Rodriguez, and Jaxon Poss. Alliance ended the ball game with 8 hits.
First Central Back came to the plate first and went down in order with Hamel garnering 2 Ks. In the bottom of the frame. the Peltz Co scored twice. Jackson Shelmadine drew a walk and advanced after a double by O’Gorman. An RBI groundout by Miguel Galvan made it 1 to 0. Alliance’s second tally came on a passed ball. In the second, the Spartans turned a double play to keep the momentum and the lead. Alliance failed to score in the home half and the contest went to the third with the Juniors up 2 to 0.
Frame #3 was a scoreless one for both squads. Two more Hamel strikeouts in the fourth kept McCook off the board. In the last of the 4th, Alliance plated 2. Tanner Salcido singled to begin the scoring and cross after an RBI swing by Rodriguez. An RBI double by Poss ensued as the Spartans surged ahead 4 to 0. First Central Bank again was turned away in the top of the fifth while the Juniors closed out the affair in their last attempt. Scoring began with a walk by Shelmadine and a run scoring knock by O’Gorman. Up 5. the scoring continued with an RBI sac bunt by Salcido. After an error by McCook, Rodriguez connected as the lead went to 7 to 0. Alliance’s last tally came after an RBI stroke by Poss.
