Prep Club Loses Heart Breaker to Sidney 9 to 8

Game 2 of a doubleheader played Thursday in Sidney between the Alliance Prep team and the hosts was a real roller coaster affair. Both sides enjoyed leads in the 5 inning battle. And when the smoke cleared, it was Sidney taking a 9 to 8 victory. Alliance had leads of 4 to 0 and 7 to 5 but late rallies by Sidney were the different. The Peltz Co outhit the Preps from Sidney 13 to 4. Leading the offense for Alliance was Sonny Hernandez who had 3 hits while adding 2 hits each were Braden Myers, AJ Garcia, and Carsen Bunnell. Three Spartans took the mound with Bunnell being the starter. Roy Torres and Cooper Galles ended the game for Alliance. The Peltz Co got the win 10 to 1 in the first contest of the day.

Four hits by the Peltz Co in the opening inning got the Spartans off to a quick start. In all, Alliance plated 4 runs in the opening frame to surge ahead. A hit by Spartan Cisco Cody began the scoring. Bunnell was next and his walk continued the rally. Hits then ensued by Garcia and Hernandez put the Peltz Co up 1 to 0. Preston Flores followed with an RBI groundout for run 2. Alliance’s third tally came on an RBI groundout by Drayden Konopnicki. The inning came to a finish with the Spartans getting an RBI knock by Torres. Down 4 to 0, the Sidney Prep squad responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. The hosts used a couple of errors by the Peltz Co, 2 walks, and 2 passed balls to take a 5 to 4 lead.

Hits by Bunnell, Garcia, and Hernandez got Alliance right back in it in the top of second. The Spartans would tie the contest at 5. Torres had a scoreless inning on the mound for Alliance in the bottom of the frame. Heading to the third, the battle was knotted at 5. Konopnicki and Myers had singles for the Peltz Co in the top of inning 3 but both runners was left on the bags. Sidney went down quietly in their try in the bottom of the inning.

Two Sidney miscues allowed Alliance take the lead in the fourth. The Spartans would get an RBI knock by Hernandez and an error by the hosts to plate 2 more runs. Down 7 to 5, Sidney answered back with a 3 spot in the bottom of inning 4. The hosts used 3 walks, a 2 run double, and an Alliance error to retake the lead. With 4 innings in the book, the Peltz Co was down 8 to 7.

Alliance would garner 3 hits in the last attempt in the fifth. The Spartans scored after a hit by Myers and a passed ball by the Sidney Prep club. Bunnell and Kylar Adams added hits but unfortunately they were left on the bases. Tied at 8, Sidney won the contest with 3 singles in the bottom of the fifth. Final Sidney 9 Alliance 8
