Baseball play on Saturday had the Alliance Spuds taking on the Regulators. In a very close contest, it was the Spuds falling 9 to 7. Alliance got to within one in the third inning but ran out of time. The Spuds had four hits on the night. Taking the hill was starter Leo Hager and relief hurler Jon Luke.
Alliance hit first and plated a run as Luke Clarke walked and later stole home. Gordon came back strong in the bottom of the first. The Regulators scored 5 times to go up by 4. Alliance put things together in the second. The Spuds scored 5 times to retake the lead. A hit by Ridge Toedtli started the rally. Later in the frame, an rbi hit by Landon Hickman made it 5 to 2. A steal of home, a passed ball, and an rbi walk by Grady Mracek then tied the contest at 5. Clarke was hit by a pitch for the Spud’s sixth tally. In the home half, the Regulators responded with three tallies. Alliance was down 8 to 6 heading to the third.
Toedtli and Hickman again had success in the third. Both singled with Hickman’s knock putting the score at 8 to 7. Luke had 2 strikeouts in the bottom of inning #3 as Gordon scoreless. Alliance failed to score in their last at bat while the Regulators added one with a triple and a double.
